데이빗 린치는 미쳤다고 말하는 사람을 만난 적이 있다. 아주 가볍게 미친 놈이야, 그거. 하고. 하지만 영화를 보면 미친 머리로 나올 수 없는 퍼즐맞추기가 있다. 그런 면에서 멀홀랜드 드라이브는 너무 많은 것을 다 보여준다. 마지막 30분 정도는 긴장이 완전히 다 풀어져서 그저 앞 부분의 상황을 떠올리며 고개만 끄덕끄덕 하는 거 말고는 할 일이 없었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 린치는 대단한 린치를 가했다. 자정 가까운 시간 미친듯이 울부짖으며 떠내려간 엠뷸런스 때문에 잠이 홀라당 깬 다음 억지로 눈을 붙이고 있다가 바로 이 영화의 마지막 장면으로 직격탄을 맞았다. 두 노인네의 공격. 눈까풀을 옅게 떨며 내 머리를 잠식한 꿈은 그지같은 드라이브의 재구성. 린치는 꿈을 잊지 않는 사내다. 아무래도 트윈픽스 박스셋을 사야 되나. 딸려 들어가기 싫다. 영화의 퍼즐이 너무 쉬우면 조롱당하지. ABC가 싫어할만도 했다. 여전히 린치가 좋다. 처음부터 지금까지 줄창 좋은 감독이라면 코헨네와 린치. 시리즈로 만들었으면 또 박스셋을 사네 마네 중고 사이트 알아보고 앉았을테지. 초지일관 등장하는 마녀는 이제 친근하기까지.
